remodeling

Lansing bathroom gets a great look!

If you just moved into a new home or if you aren’t in love with your bathroom, CHECK THIS POST out!

This project covered it all - a new tub, a new window with light and privacy in mind, new tile in the shower, new flooring in the entire bathroom, and new trim, a new vanity and matching counter, a faucet, those adorable lights above the vanity, new mirrors and a new fan! Every step of the design was made with the couple who owned the home because they wanted something that was uniquely THEM.

That’s what custom remodeling is! It’s working with experts to design your home to represent YOU!

Speaking of unique - we also installed slide out drawers in the closet (check the photos) and they’re not only super functional for a family with kids running around, but they look great and keep thing accessible and organized!

This was a great project and we hope to see more great ideas from these young homeowners!

Resurface or refinish your deck for safety and for looks

Getting your deck resurfaced or even replaced isn’t just about looks - it’s also about safety. An old, worn out deck can be an eyesore and sure, it might lead to hosting fewer barbecues, but an old deck clan also be a liability (and I’m not just talking about splinters). One time, I had a refrigerator delivered and asked them to come through the back slider over the deck. The delivery man fell straight through the middle of the deck! Luckily he wasn’t hurt, but it could have been worse.

This homeowner didn’t have anyone fall through the deck, but they certainly made a great choice in redoing the deck! It looks great and it’s now ready for some BBQ or even trips out to that hot tub!

Master Bathroom Remodel

This master bathroom in Holt has all the pace in the world to relax or get ready for work and with the toilet in a separate room, you can truly feel clean while you’re getting clean!

One of my favorite remodels

This beautiful remodel is a house that we worked on a year ago. It was a classic, older home with small rooms, which the homeowner wanted to open up and make more modern. These jobs always have issues and considerations that come with the age of the home - this is why you need an expert for this type of remodel.

In this project for instance, we worked very closely with some of our partners and craftsmen. I designed the kitchen on my computer with advise from the homeowner and the custom cabinet expertise of Nate Shaver at Grant DesignYard . We had the kitchen planned, but then we discovered there were sagging joists in the floor. Fixing joists individually is something I’m used to because I have a background in water and fire damage.

Once that was fixed, we had ServiceMaster Restore come and soda blast the bricks while we built the cabinets. We had a custom bench made, which was cushioned by Stitches Fabrics.

There was a delay in the quartz counters, so we temporarily installed an alternative counter so the homeowner could celebrate the holidays.

The bottom line is that a major project involves a ton of people and the contractors you meet with should have the experts on hand, or the connections to experts, to make your dream projects come true. I’m proud of this kitchen and all the work we do and I’m glad to work so closely with so many incredible craftsmen and small businesses around Mid Michigan!

A Kitchen Saved From Frozen Pipes

When a pipe burst this winter, it ruined this kitchen. Everything down to the very studs had to be removed. It’s an unfortunate danger of cold climates and I wish people didn’t have to face it. When they do - they need professionals to make things right and restore order to their home. That’s where my team and the great people at Servicemaster Absolute Home & Restoration Services come in.

Once the damage was mitigated by Service Master’s team, my team was able to come in, work with the homeowner on their ideal kitchen redesign and make it happen.

With very little hassle, we were able to install new cabinets, counters, floors, trim and drywall with fresh paint.

I’m proud of the work we did here (look at the before photos) and proud to work in a business where we can help people get back to their lives after disaster strikes.

An Elegant Bathroom Remodel

Performed another bathroom remodel and I really like the choices the homeowners made. This bathroom is simple, yet sophisticated. We always enjoy helping people match their ideas to the right materials to create the spaces they envision.

A Simple Bathroom Remodel

Summer can be a very busy time for a contractor. Zischke Builders has a ton of projects, large and small, in the works. One small project we recently finished was this bathroom remodel.

Remodeling your bathroom can really enhance your mood. So many of us start or end our day in the shower. I think it makes a huge difference to have a nice space with clean features and good colors!

Accidents happen

Monday isn’t your favorite day of the week? At least yours didn’t start with a hole in your garage. I’m glad this home owner called me to get their garage boarded up and protected and I’m glad they weren’t hurt.

When disaster strikes, a board up can protect your property while insurance gets everything lined up. If you find yourself in need and you’re in the greater Lansing area or Jackson or call 517-819-0429.

Termite damaged home gets second opinion and second chance: Part 3

termiteprogress.JPG

We’ve made tremendous progress on a home with the worst termite damage I’ve ever seen. Some of you probably remember the home I’m talking about. Several contractors said it would need to be demolished, but we were able to come in with experience and skill to not only restore the home, but work with the homeowner to make this a lot closer to a dream than a nightmare!

Let’s take a look at a corner of the front room that once had a low ceiling and had some very serious damage:

This is what craftsmen do: we solve problems. Now we aren’t done yet. Check out the vaulted ceiling now that we have added drywall and started to cut for lights:

I’m so excited to see this progress that I just had to share it here. I know a lot of my friends reached out and asked how we would fix this!

If your home has been damaged by termites, don’t take somebody’s word for it that you’re house needs to be demolished. Give me a call at (517) 819-0429 or email me at zischkebuilders@gmail.com and I’ll come out and give you an expert second opinion for free.
